2024 NFL Mock Draft 1.0
By: David Koval
Pick 1: Chicago Bears - Caleb Williams, Quarterback, USC
The best quarterback the Bears have on the roster right now is Tyson Bagent. He was an undrafted rookie this past season who did not look good when he played. The Bears also traded Justin Fields to the Steelers for a conditional 6th-round pick, and Caleb Williams is one of the best quarterback prospects since Andrew Luck making him a no-brainer for Chicago at number 1.
Pick 2: Washington Commanders - Drake Maye, Quarterback, UNC
The current quarterbacks on the Commanders roster are Jeff Driskel, Jake Fromm, and Marcus Mariota. None of them will be good enough for Washington to compete in the NFC East. Drake Maye has been compared to Justin Herbert and should be a good fit for Kliff Kingsbury’s offense.
Pick 3: New England Patriots - Jayden Daniels, Quarterback, LSU
The Patriots need a quarterback to start this year and for the future. Jayden Daniels looked great his freshman season and these past two seasons at LSU where he won the Heisman. This is an easy pick for New England after Maye and Williams are selected.
Pick 4: Arizona Cardinals - Marvin Harrison Jr., Wide Reciever, Ohio State
The Cardinals need weapons for Kyler Murray desperately. Marvin Harrison Jr. is a generational prospect and is an obvious choice for Arizona here.
Pick 5: Los Angeles Chargers - Malik Nabers, Wide Reciever, LSU
The Chargers have Josh Palmer who is a solid WR2 or 3 and also Quentin Johnston, who struggled as a rookie. They have a quarterback with MVP-level talent and need to get him another threat. Nabers is the definite WR2 in this class and would be WR1 in most other classes. Nabers is 6’0 and 200 pounds with great burst and YAC ability, making him a formidable partner with Justin Herbert.
Pick 6: New York Giants - Rome Odunze Wide Reciever, Washington
The Giants have 2 young unproven receivers in Wan’dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt. They need to get a true weapon who can be a WR1 and give Daniel Jones no more excuses. Odunze is exactly that and is expected to produce in the league right away.
Pick 7: Tennessee Titans - Joe Alt, Offensive Tackle, Notre Dame
It is an understatement to say the Titans' offensive line struggled last season. They drafted Peter Skoronski last yer in the first round, but he kicked inside to guard leaving them a hole at left tackle. In comes Joe Alt, who is the most ready for the NFL and the best tackle in the draft, filling this need right away for Tennessee.
Pick 8: Atlanta Falcons - Jer’Zhan Newton, Defensive Line, Illinois
The Falcons did not have a good defense last year. A big part of that was due to their struggles on the defensive line. Newton is game game-changing interior pass rusher who can beat offensive linemen with great strength and a variety of moves.
Pick 9: Chicago Bears - Byron Murphy II, Defensive Line, Texas
The Bears share the same story with the Falcons. They need massive help on the defensive side of the ball and Byron Murphy is arguably just as good as Jer’Zhan Newton.
Pick 10: New York Jets - Taliese Fuaga, Offensive Tackle, Oregon State
The Jets' current tackles are Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses. 2 aging veterans who are not the players they once were. However, the Jets could probably get away with playing Smith at Left Tackle. This means they could select Fuaga, and get a franchise tackle who has already played on the right side in college.
Pick 11: Minnesota Vikings - JJ McCarthy, Quarterback, Michigan
The Vikings' best QB on the roster is currently Sam Darnold. I do not love McCarthy as a prospect but I do think he could be a good fit in Kevin O’Connell’s offense. As long as they do not ask him to do too much, I could see him having some solid production with Minnesota.
Pick 12: Denver Broncos - Michael Penix Jr., Quarterback, Washington
The Broncos' current Starting QB would be Jarrett Stidham. That is not going to work for Sean Payton and Michael Penix Jr. is a great quarterback. He has all the arm talent in the world, and as long as he stays healthy, he can be a franchise quarterback.
Pick 13: Las Vegas Raiders - Troy Fautanu, Offensive Line, Washington
I know the Raiders need a quarterback, but I think they will ride with O’Connell and Minshew this season. They let Jermaine Eluemunor walk in free agency, and Troy Fautanu is capable of playing every spot on the offensive line and doing it at a high level.
Pick 14: New Orleans Saints - Brian Thomas Jr., Wide Reciever, LSU
I like Chris Olave and I think AT Perry can be decent. However, the Saints need to get Derek Carr another weapon if they want to win more than 9 games this year. Brian Thomas is quick and can go up and get the ball, and reminds me of Martavis Bryant.
Pick 15: Indianapolis Colts - Adonai Mitchell, Wide Receiver, Texas
I could have gone corner here, but I love Mitchell as a prospect and think pairing him with Michael Pittman would work out nicely for the Colts. They have a young quarterback in Anthony Richardson, and it is always good to surround those guys with as many weapons as possible.
Pick 16: Seattle Seahawks - Laiatu Latu, Edge Rusher, UCLA
The Seahawks have Boye Mafe who could end up being a good player. I think pairing up Latu with him could turn into a very formidable duo for years, and I could not let Latu keep falling. I think Seattle will like that Latu should fit into Mike MacDonald’s defensive scheme.
Pick 17: Jacksonville Jaguars - Quinyon Mitchell, Cornerback, Toledo
The Jaguars have Tyson Campbell and signed Ronald Darby. However, I think adding Quinyon Mitchell improves their secondary tremendously and the talent is too good to pass up here.
Pick 18: Cincinnati Bengals - Brock Bowers, Tight End, Georgia
The Bengals have an elite QB in Joe Burrow and good receivers. They do not have a tight end who will scare anyone, but that would change with Brock Bowers. He is a prospect similar to the caliber of Kyle Pitts and drafting him would take their offense to another level.
Pick 19: Los Angeles Rams - Olu Fashanu, Offensive Tackle, Penn State
The Rams Left Tackle is Alaric Jackson. Olu Fashanu should not have fallen this far and he is elite in pass protection and developing nicely in the run game. He would be a home run pick for the Rams here.
Pick 20: Pittsburgh Steelers - Amarius Mims, Offensive Tackle, Georgia
The Steelers need a tackle, and they would be betting on Mims’ tools and hope that he keeps developing his game due to his limited film. However, in that limited time, he looked very good and he played Right Tackle, meaning the Steelers could move Broderick Jones back to the left side.
Pick 21: Miami Dolphins - JC Latham, Offensive Tackle, Alabama
Austin Jackson hasn’t been good enough for the Dolphins. JC Latham is another elite tackle prospect who could probably play on the left or right side of the line.
Pick 22: Philadelphia Eagles - Terrion Arnold, Cornerback, Alabama
The Eagles corners James Bradberry and Darius Slay are both getting older. Bradberry was not good last year and Arnold should be a really good player in the NFL. Arnold is great in press coverage but also has the versatility to play from off coverage and in zone, and he just seems like an Eagle.
Pick 23: Minnesota Vikings - Cooper Dejean, Cornerback, Iowa
The Vikings need help in the secondary, and Cooper Dejean could probably play anywhere. He is a fleet-footed mover and a very fluid playing zone. He also possesses a smooth backpedal which is something teams will like.
Pick 24: Dallas Cowboys - Tyler Guyton, Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma
Dallas has Tyler Smith at Left tackle, but their starting right tackle would be Terence Steele. Guyton has played right tackle and is long and athletic and seems like the type of tackle the Cowboys like.
Pick 25: Green Bay Packers - Jared Verse, Edge Rusher, Florida State
I see this as a luxury pick for the Packers. They have a pretty good roster but Preston Smith is getting older. They have Rashan Gary and Lukas Van Ness but I think Verse will be much better than Van Ness and would be a great pick to improve the Packers' defense even more.
Pick 26: Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Dallas Turner, Edge Rusher, Alabama
I think Tampa Bay liked what they saw from YaYa Diaby and Joe Tryon so far. However, I think Turner is a better player than both of those guys and would make teams not want to play against the Buccaneers defense.
Pick 27: Arizona Cardinals - Nate Wiggins, Cornerback, Clemson
The Cardinals need a cornerback pretty badly. Nate Wiggins is an insane athlete who showed some very nice ball skills at Clemson.
Pick 28: Buffalo Bills - Ladd McConkey, Wide Reciever, Georgia
The Bills need a receiver after trading Stefon Diggs to Houston. I know not everyone believes McConkey is a first-rounder, but I believe he should be in consideration. He is a great route runner with an excellent release and also ran a 4.39 at the combine.
Pick 29: Detroit Lions - Kamari Lassiter, Cornerback, Georgia
Another player from Georgia who isn’t exactly a consensus first-rounder. However, I think Lassiter is a great player who wastes very little movement and also has great play recognition. The Lions only have Carlton Davis at Corner and it is safe to imagine Dan Campbell would love pairing Lassiter with Davis.
Pick 30: Baltimore Ravens - Graham Barton, Offensive Line, Duke
The Ravens lost 3 starting linemen in free agency. Barton is very physical like the Ravens like with their linemen, and he can play literally anywhere on the line, making this a great pick for Baltimore.
Pick 31: San Francisco 49ers - Kool-Aid Mckinstry, Cornerback, Alabama
The 49ers have 2 decent corners, but no stars. Mckinstry is great at sinking his hips into breaks and also has great lateral movement in press coverage and he could be a star they need in the secondary.
Pick 32: Kansas City Chiefs - Chop Robinson, Edge Rusher, Penn State
I wanted to go receiver here, but there were none I thought were good picks here. I’m aware that the Chiefs have George Karlaftis who I think will be a very good player. They also have Chris Jones who is getting older. I think pairing Robinson with Karlaftis would be a great duo for the Chiefs for years to come.
